Things That Don’t Impress Me Anymore

Loud & LUXE don't appeal anymore

Once upon a time, I was wide-eyed and easy to dazzle. But after a few decades of living, loving, losing, and learning, I’ve developed what I like to call my “nonsense radar” — and darling, it’s finely tuned. Let’s just say the list of things that make me go “wow” has gotten shorter, while the list of things that make me roll my eyes has grown considerably.

So pour yourself a cup of tea, coffee or Dr Pepper — no judgment here — and let me tell you about a few things that just don’t impress me anymore.

1. Loud Confidence With No Substance

Swagger used to catch my eye. Now I just squint and wonder, “But what have you actually done?” Talking a big game is easy; showing up consistently, being kind under pressure, and doing the work — that’s the real flex.

2. Overpriced Anything

I’ve spent the money, I’ve worn the brands, and I’ve eaten the $50 salads. Turns out, peace of mind and a well-seasoned home-cooked meal are still undefeated. These days, if it doesn’t spark joy and make sense to my wallet, I’m not buying.

3. People Who Can’t Laugh at Themselves

If you take yourself too seriously, we probably won’t vibe. Life is messy and hilarious. If you can’t chuckle when your pants split or your phone autocorrects “thanks” to “thongs,” we’ve got a problem.

4. Perfect Social Media Lives

Been there. Filtered that. I know what real life looks like: messy counters, sleepy eyes, and joy that doesn’t always photograph well. If your feed is more polished than a showroom floor, I’m happy for you, but I’m not fooled. These days I'm balancing "well prepared" with a generous helping of "keeping it real."

5. Being the Smartest Person in the Room

I used to be impressed by people who had all the answers. Now I’m drawn to the ones who ask good questions, listen more than they speak, and aren’t afraid to say “I don’t know.” Wisdom whispers. Ego and Insecurity shout.

6. Trendy Friendships

You know the ones — people who are around when things are shiny but nowhere to be found when the sparkle fades. I want the ride-or-die friends, the “call me at 2am” crew. Not the brunch-for-Instagram crowd.

7. Chasing Youth

I love a good skincare routine as much as the next woman, and I'll admit to trying my share of wrinkle creams. But I’m not at war with my laugh lines. I stopped coloring my hair. I earned all that stuff. There’s a certain beauty that only comes from surviving, thriving, and having stories to tell. You can’t Botox that.

Final Thought: With age comes clarity — and a beautiful kind of freedom. The older I get, the more I realize that real wealth is peace, real beauty is authenticity, and real joy is found in the little moments with authentic relationships. I’m not easily impressed anymore… but I’m endlessly grateful.

So if you’re in your grown-woman era, raising your standards and lowering your tolerance for foolishness — welcome. You’re in excellent company.
