Many of us have reached a point, whether for ourselves or loved ones, where we recognize relying solely on conventional healthcare isn't always enough. This isn’t about our dedicated healthcare professionals who are working tirelessly, often beyond healthy limits, within a complex system. It’s about prioritizing our own well-being and not being limited by single-minded solutions. Simply speaking, advocate for your own health and wellbeing.
I learned this through two significant health experiences years ago.
First, I developed a grinding sensation in my neck with every head movement. While it might sound minor, the internal noise was incredibly disruptive. My primary care physician diagnosed a loss of cartilage between my vertebrae, a condition deemed permanent. I left feeling disheartened.
Second, at 35, I experienced debilitating heartburn and arthritis. Climbing stairs became painful, my hands ached while playing piano, and my shoulders were constantly sore. I relied on antacids with every meal.
In both instances, I initially believed I was destined for a life of chronic and cascading pain. However, unexpected solutions emerged.
For my neck; I accompanied my daughter to a naturopathic consultation. I've always valued healthy living, but lacked direction. This practitioner's non-invasive diagnostic skills and treatment recommendations impressed me, so I scheduled my own appointment. I presented a list of ailments, including my neck, which I assumed was irreparable. He reminded me of the body's innate healing capacity, suggesting the cartilage could regenerate. He prescribed a simple natural supplement, and within three months, the grinding sensation was gone. Interested? Find it HERE 👇🏽 https://amzn.to/43PtQPf
The arthritis and heartburn were addressed unexpectedly in a conversation with my dad, whom I lovely call “Pop.” During a phone conversation we wandered into checking on each other’s health. My aches came up and he inquired about my symptoms and suggested eliminating gluten. Twenty-five years ago, this was a novel concept. No one had heard of “gluten free eating.” He shared his own positive experience and challenged me to try it for a week. The results were remarkable within days. He then recommended a book, grounded in scientific research, which I'll gladly share. Curious? Find it HERE 👇🏽 https://amzn.to/3Rexs5Q
I recount these experiences to encourage proactive self-advocacy. Explore alternative solutions, consult with trusted individuals, and conduct thorough research. Consider an integrated medicine practitioner who collaborates with natural health providers and respects your autonomy in seeking diverse approaches.
Open disclosure, I use both modern meds and natural remedies in my life. One of my daughters the other day let me know I have become "crunchy" and I'll take that haha. I have type 2 diabetes and a heart rhythm issue (atypical sinus tachycardia) that require some level of modern medical care. Meanwhile I address other health concerns with natural and non-invasive methods. This integrated approach has proven effective for my husband and me.
I’ll explore some of these along the way, but for now, I need to close this convo down and let you get to your day.
Here’s to good living!!!! I wish the best for each one of you.
